40 days of Lent

No doubt there may be some bleary-eyed readers of The OJT 100 this morning, after a late Fat Tuesday evening. Yes, today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten season, ending Holy Saturday, April 11.

Many will give up extra indulgences such as sweets, spirits and other sacrifices, with those monetary savings over the 40 days donated to the church. Others will dedicate the time to renew their relationship with God.

My devout Catholic grandmother, who passed last year at the age of 101, fasted every Friday during Lent. In modern times, one must simply refrain from eating meat.
