Reducing the use of emergency departments by the uninsured for their primary care has been a goal of Florida’s health care providers. The Community Medicine Clinic at AdventHealth East Orlando assists uninsured patients identified in the emergency department without primary care physicians.
The goal is to treat 90% of arriving patients without a referral to specialists or a higher level of care, such as the emergency department. Several specialty clinics provide limited health services as well.
Since opening in 2018, the AdventHealth East Orlando clinic has seen 2,663 uninsured patients while helping them avoid the stress of the emergency room.
