Today, we all have hand sanitizer in our purse, car and home. But the FDA is warning the public to avoid more than 100 hand sanitizers because they may contain methanol, which is toxic when ingested or absorbed through the skin.
The popularity of hand sanitizer has risen dramatically since the onset of the pandemic, leading to shortages of popular brands and causing many new brands to enter the marketplace.
The FDA is taking steps to prevent the products from entering the country, but consumers should be on the lookout. More information, including which products to avoid, is available here.
