Move over Yellowstone 1883, Jacksonville will celebrate its bicentennial in 2022. As reported in the Florida Times-Union, in the first few decades of the 1800s, Northeast Florida was largely unsettled frontier, apart from St. Augustine, Fernandina Beach and some Spanish land-grant farms and plantations.
The Jacksonville Historical Society, in partnership with several community organizations representing Arts & Culture, Business & Industry, Education, Environment, Faith, Government, Health & Wellness, Media, Nonprofit and Sports & Entertainment, are planning and will kick off bicentennial events in January with programs and events throughout the entire bicentennial year.
The official kick-off will be held on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7PM.
