After a frightening labor impasse that postponed the season’s start, baseball will be back Thursday, April 7 for Opening Day.
The World Champion Atlanta Braves (say it out loud) will begin the defense of their title when they raise the World Series flag at home Thursday, hosting the Cincinnati Reds. Atlanta’s divisional foe, the lowly Miami Marlins, open in San Francisco on Friday, while the AL East’s contending Tampa Bay Rays host the Baltimore Orioles Friday at Tropicana Field.
Both leagues will use the designated hitter, and six teams in each league will make the expanded playoffs. Play Ball!
