Some of the largest names in retail are teaming up to eliminate the plastic bag. To replace this single-use plastic (of which the U.S. uses 100 billion a year) with an environmentally-friendly alternative, the retailers established the Beyond the Bag Challenge.
The stakes are high with $1 million in funding ready to go to winning solutions. Some parameters include utilizing innovative materials and ensuring that goods make it from retailer to their destination.
