Too many Florida Manatees are dying

by The 100 Companies

Almost 700 of Florida’s most gentle residents died in the first four months of 2021, exceeding last year’s overall total.

The magnitude of loss is so atypical and significant that the deaths are now considered an Unusual Mortality Event by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Responding to manatees needing rescue is a top priority for the agency, and FWC marine biologists are investigating diminished food supplies and environmental conditions in the Indian River Lagoon.

Every Floridian can support our silent Sirenians by spreading awareness and visiting the FWC’s dedicated page for more information and ways to help.
