Florida TaxWatch has released its 2020 Budget Turkey Watch Report. The annual report doesn’t point out unworthy projects but identifies those that made it into the budget without being properly scrutinized.
The $93.2 billion budget passed by the Florida Legislature for 2020-21 contains 180 appropriations items qualifying as Budget Turkeys worth $136.3 million. These are only a portion of the record 829 member projects in the budget worth more than $500 million.
TaxWatch identifies Budget Turkeys to promote transparency in public budgeting, encourage meaningful legislative review of all appropriations and facilitate budgeting checks and balances. See the 2020 report here.
