Candidate X is in danger of missing a deadline

Is your email inbox full of appeals for contributions as candidates for Congress and the White House cast their digital nets far and wide? There are important differences in giving to a federal candidate versus a candidate for state office.

Importantly, contributions can only be personally donated, no business or corporate contributions are allowed to a federal candidate. The limits are $2,800 for a primary and $2,800 for the general election and may be given simultaneously.

However,  candidate campaigns may only expend primary money during the primary, and must hold back general election donations until the primary is complete.
