I have always been appreciative of the finely honed skills of an orator swaying the audience to their way of thinking. Fast forward to political debates, where presenting a reasoned, fact-based argument has given way to a free-for-all forum. And not in a good way.
Is it any wonder we don’t know how to conduct a civil debate? The View prides itself on bombastic banter to be recognized. Cable news shows invite talking heads to discuss an issue, encouraging simultaneously shouted answers. It’s good for ratings.
We have less than a month left. Here’s hoping more respectful deliberations take place.
