Mayor Jake Godbold, who served as Jacksonville Mayor from 1978 to 1987, passed away Jan. 23 at the age of 86.
The tributes to a life well lived have been flooding the media, including his many accomplishments in revitalizing downtown, starting initial discussions in bringing the NFL to Jacksonville and organizing the city’s first Jazz Festival.
The potential sale of the locally owned utility, JEA, has recently been under scrutiny. Just days before Mayor Godbold’s passing, he penned an opinion editorial weighing in on the issue. It was printed in the Sunday, Jan. 26 Times-Union edition and may be accessed here.
